Prince is still cool

Part of getting older is having to watch the music idols of your youth fade into irrelevance. They get old too. Some have you wishing they would not perform live anymore. You want to remember them as what they were.

The same cannot be said for Prince. Last night during the Superbowl, Nicole and I were speculating that he might not even perform because of all the rain. Not "Purple Rain" but real rain. Prince is known for his diva-like tendencies and I was having a hard time picturing the Purple One coming out in a rain-soaked stadium and the stage covered in water.

Not only did he perform, he rocked the house. From the looks of the giant stage I would say they probably canceled all the dancers for safety reasons. The whole show was basically Prince and his guitar and he did not disappoint.

Soaked to the skin, he ripped through old favorites like "Let's Go Crazy" and of course "Purple Rain." He even covered a version of the Foo Fighters "Best of You" in sort of a Jimmie Hendricks meets Dave Grohl arrangement.

By many accounts it was the best Superbowl halftime performance ever. And for me it's good to know that at least one rock star from my youth can still bring it. I might even put my earring back in and dig out my parachute pants! Nahhhh. Maybe not.

Sorry for the break from my usual boring topics. I'll be back to boring campaign stuff later.
