"You can't knock on every door in the district." That was a snarky comment I received to a post a couple of days ago. True, but I can knock on all the ones that vote!
My legs are sore. I'm run down. I started my door-knocking odyssey when it was still so hot out that I was sweating through shirts and ruining ties. Then fall came. Pleasant afternoons when I could cover far more houses before tiring. Then it was winter. I found myself out in rain, sleet, snow, freezing rain and combinations of all. I remember one rainy Saturday in Coleman Highlands where my hair was literally frozen to my head.
I know I'm out of time. Even today I was still meeting people who had never heard of me. On the bright side I was meeting people who had heard of me and are going to vote for me on Tuesday.
We know where the votes are. We're optimistic about our chances. Soon it will be down to the counting. |

post a commentI live in the 4th, Northeast Brookside - 57th & Rockhill and you haven't yet knocked on my door....but I'm still going to vote for you...
good luck.
doinkman,
I've been down Rockhill! About three weeks ago. My hit rate wasn't the best. You probably weren't home. Did I at least leave some literature?
It was good to see you at my house, and you know I'll be voting for you.
I've heard more people saying they're voting for you than all the other candidates combined.
Nearly everyone that I've met that has met you, spoken with you, or read your blog/position statements is in your camp...and I've spoken to a lot of people about it! I just hope that at the end of the day the grass roots efforts and this new-fangled internet thing is enough to reach enough voters...the message is certainly hitting home though.
Mark,
Actually, I'm on Charlotte... but the point I was trying to make is you may feel like you need to meet face to face with every voter, but that just isn't feasible or a requirement for somebody to vote for you...
good luck!
Whether or not you actually make it to every voter, it's commendable that you are trying. (You didn't get my door, but then you wouldn't be able to get into my building to even try, so see, no matter what you do, there will always be some voters you just won't get.)
I still remember Joe Bock coming to my parents' door in Gladstone for state rep when I was in middle or high school. It can leave an impression, and it says something about dedication, I think.
(But no, it's not required for someone to vote for you!)
