Dirtbags For Beth Gottstein

I don't like liars. I don't like deception. I really don't like negative campaign flyers like the one that just arrived in my mailbox. On one side it shows a roll away suitcase with money busting out of the seams.

Mistake #1. It's obviously not real money, it's been photocopied which I believe is a federal offense. Perhaps the Secret Service needs to be alerted? I may just forward my copy to the authorities so they can trace the origin of that picture. Learn the law dirtbags.

On the back side of the flyer it has an obvious PhotoShop hack job of Doug Gamble's picture making him look much older.

Mistake #2. This tactic is strangely familiar. Using altered images on the last day of the campaign to defame an opponent. Get some new tactics dirtbags.

The flyer goes on to imply that Doug Gamble received millions of dollars in TIF, a distortion of the facts which he has repeatedly addressed.

Mistake #3. This is the same rhetoric that Beth Gottstein has been blurting out at forums. If you're going to deceive, don't parrot the message of your candidate dirtbags.

Thanks to campaign laws, we do get to see at least the name of the soft-money front that sent this poorly done hit piece.

Mistake #4. If you're going to go on the attack in Kansas City politics, at least use a Kansas City address, not some well-to-do enclave like Lake Tapawingo, dirtbags.

A quick check of the MO Ethics Website reveals that the Missouri Values Committee is a front for the unions. This time around it's Taxpayers Unlimited, Greater Kansas City Building & Construction Trades, Asbestos Workers and Pipefitters. Unless you've been living in a cave you know that Taxpayers Unlimited is the deceptively named PAC for the firefighters union. In the past contributors to Missouri Values Committee have been just about every other union you can name including my late father's beloved Sheet Metal Workers Local 2. This alone sickens me to the core. I expect better from a reputable trade union like Local 2.

Mistake #5. It's ironic that the very organizations that have benefited from this town's TIF-induced artificial building boom are now attacking a candidate for his connection to a TIF plan. Are these unions so self-righteous that they will refuse to work on any job site involving TIF? I doubt it. Don't be a bunch of hypocritics, dirtbags.

It's probably too late for Doug Gamble. Last minute hit pieces like this are extremely effective. I guess there's nothing left to do but congratulate Beth Gottstein. Hiring Pat Gray, NorthStar and its hitmen is still the way to go. Maybe she is the smart one after all...

I received mine in the mail on Saturday but didn't read it until yesterday...we marched straight down to Doug's campaign office to get a yard sign. Unfortunately it was closed - must have been out door knocking - which I found odd. Luckily there was one sign out front and we took it.

I was/am enraged to say the least. I've made it a rule not to vote for anyone that uses NorthStar - unless they're running against an architect. I think I'll go write a nasty letter, again.

OH, found his office being closed odd - not the possible door knocking.

Mark, I know you like Doug, but you've kind of gone nuts on this one. It shows when you start off with the patently absurd counterfeiting charge. Come on, my friend, take a deep breath and wipe the foam from your mouth - you know that's crazy talk.

As for the unflattering photo, Gamble, in a piece from his own campaign, wins that contest in his piece earlier this week.

Third, you know that soft money MUST be spent without campaign control. You're blaming her for a piece she didn't do.

Both campaigns have been far beneath their candidates in this race, but you're foolish to fall for the Gamble campaign's constant whining.

Dan -
Beth assumed responsibility for soft money hit pieces the minute she got into bed with PACs. Don't try to paint her as an innocent bystander on this one. She doesn't have the wits to fight her own battles. She runs off and has her hair done while the PACs do the dirty work for her - and then she has you say that she "didn't do the piece". Yeah – and mafia bosses never kill anyone. What she is doing is a fine job of reinforcing negative stereotypes of females in politics (good at planning political parties but as candidates can’t keep their emotions in check, can’t fight their own battles, can’t comprehend the issues, etc). Male politicos like her b/c she's weak and easily influenced. Thank you Dan for showing what a sexist you are by having such low expectations from female candidates and thank you Beth for setting women in politics back 50 years.

Dan, you don't have a sense of humor AT ALL.

Gamble defends himself and you dismiss it as whining and in turn defend Gottstein for her ignorance and inability to control her "supporters" - I don't get your thought process on this one. The whole point of these groups is to do the smear campaigning so the pols can appear to keep their hands clean. It stopped fooling most people a long time ago...speaking of foolish.

Honestly, I don't mind negative campaigning at all - as long as its the truth.

Good point Michelle.

Is pointing your opponent's weaknesses really negative? Or is it just politics?

There is a difference between strong words and outright lies...

Miss Spider - Perhaps you don't understand campaign law. It does not set women back to follow the law - the Gamble hit piece was from a third party, and, by law, third party money must not be controlled by the campaign. And expecting candidates to follow the law doesn't mean I'm a sexist, does it.

Michelle - same thing. It would be unethical and illegal for her to exert control over the third party mailing. I don't think it's foolish to follow the law.

Eric - I agree with you. In this case, though, it sounds like the anti-Gamble piece had its facts wrong, and that's unacceptable.

It just seems that no-one seems to care when Taxpayers or whoever is doing it at the bidding of Claire or another Dem.

I know now there is a reason why I haven't become involved in city politics - it's when a bunch of Dems & liberals turn on each other. Too bad - because city government affects us more than anything that happens in D.C.

Good luck to everyone tonight. There will be disappointment for some & victory for others but then it is time to turn towards running the government and effecting change and greatness for Kansas City.

Peace.

p.s. Former Riederer supporter and yellow-dog Democrat.
