Steak Night

I got lucky. I'm on my own for dinner tonight and it just so happens to be Steak Night at Mike Kelly's Westsider. A 12oz Kansas City Strip for $9.95. Westport Flea Market has me covered on Mondays serving up a 10oz Kansas City Strip for $9.95. Of course the downtown Tanner's has been a regular destination on Thursdays for years. This got me to thinking. This is Kansas City. Surely there has to be a good ten buck steak every night?

Help me fill in my calendar.

Monday - Westport Flea Market
Tuesday -
Wednesday - Mike Kelly's Westsider
Thursday - Tanner's
Friday -

Fric & Frac has two steak nights, every Tuesday and Friday, for $9. I'm not a big fan of steak, but I really like F&F's version.

Eric,

I was steered wrong by an old eKC ad. Westsider Steak Night is now on Tuesdays.

Never been to Fric & Frac.

You're not a big fan of STEAK?! Please turn in your Kansas City credentials. You are the weakest link. Goodbye. ;-)

Twin City Tavern at 43rd and State Line has at least one steak night. I think it might be Sunday.

Best steak in town: Strouds.
Best chicken in town: The Bamboo Hut.
Sorry folks, that's just how it is.

Strouds for steak huh? I've never made it past jamming fried chicken, green beans and mashed potatoes down my neck to even realize they have steak on the menu.

Twin City Tavern? Haven't been there in years. I may have to check that out. Thanks Alan!

Best steak? Ruth's Chris. But hardly in the $10 catagory.

I'll have to try some of your suggestions though.

since wednesday is now open, you can add steak night at the quaff there. you'd make joe a very happy man. :)

Yeah, Mark, I know a large contingent of folks who are adamant that the chicken is the worst thing on Strouds' menu.

Go to Bamboo Hut on 40 Highway and you'll see what I mean. Half a chicken, salad, baked potato and buttered Texas toast: $8.95 every day. The chicken is awesome!

Next time you're at Strouds, try the pork chops, but order one fried and one broiled. Start with the fried one first, that way if you get too full, the broiled one goes home and makes for a great breakfast.

Oh yeah, and though I cannot confirm the steak night at Twin City Tavern, I CAN confirm that my new favorite burger is the Bacon / Philly Cream Cheese burger at the 'Twin. Bacon. Cream Cheese. That's all anyone really needs in life. Awesome!

Oh yeah, I'm pretty sure that Bamboo Hut has a steak there. My boss says its pretty good. I'd be willing to bet that it's less than $10 every night, so you might think about using the Bamboo Hut steak as a filler if you can't find anywhere else.

But I'd still have to go with the chicken...

And, if someone insists on a [expletive removed] chain restaurant for steak in Kansas City, the Capital Grille pwns Ruth's Chris. But, really, its all overpriced. I'll put Stroud's KC Strip steak against anybody's best and bet good money that its better.

Also, if you want a really good steak in midtown (when Stroud's is too far to drive), the wifey's favorite is the Top Sirloin at Potpie (intersection of Westport Road and SW Trafficway). I think it's $18 or $19 for dinner. One of the best steak values in KC, if you ask me. I think Potpie is probably KC's most overlooked and underestimated (and underpriced) dining experience. Go there and you'll know.
