Swiss chemist Dr. Albert Hoffman passed away today. In 1938 while developing medicines from compounds in ergot, a fungus that attacks rye, he discovered Lysergic Acid Diethylamide - LSD. His first trip was accidental having absorbed some of the compound through his skin. His subsequent trips, of which he admitted there were probably hundreds, were not so accidental.
Did he die from a lethal overdose? Residual drug use complications? Perhaps. He did have a heart attack. Then again, the fact that he was 102 years old might have had something to do with it. |

He spent the last 70 years of his life mesmerized by and walking towards the light, here's hoping it was just as amazing when he truly found it.
Remind me to stop ordering rye bread!
