Patience of Job

City Auditor Mark Funkhauser testified yesterday in front of the Budget and Audit Committee about financial stewardship and City services performance. I'm sure he's seen a lot of elected officials come and go, and explained the same concepts year after year. Watching him explain basic accounting principles for the umpteenth time has given me even more respect for him.

Wouldn't it be something if we actually paid attention to his audits? It seems like his only function is to refer questioners to audits he's done several years ago.

When we see people running across the street, we know we have a problem

Someone made the point to me that although the Plaza is one of the better pedestrian environments in the city, there are certain streets that because of their width make it challenging for people to cross.

I think his assertion that “when we see people running across the street, we know we have a problem” is something we can all look out for.
